Over 27,000 people affected by Southwest Monsoon and Typhoon Bising

The combined effects of the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” and Typhoon Bising (international name Danas) have impacted over 27,000 individuals across three regions, according to a report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Monday.

In its 8 a.m. report, the NDRRMC indicated that a total of 27,401 families, or 82,548 individuals, were affected in 14 barangays located in Regions 1 (Ilocos Region), 3 (Central Luzon), and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

As of the time of the report, only two families, comprising nine persons, were sheltered in two evacuation centers, while 1,017 families, or 3,002 individuals, were receiving assistance and support in other locations.

The Office of Civil Defense noted that the affected families include those displaced by the inclement weather as well as those who do not require relocation from their residences.

Additionally, the NDRRMC reported that 14 houses were damaged due to the weather conditions—two in Region 3, classified as “totally damaged,” and 12 in CAR, described as “partially damaged.”

As of the report, the NDRRMC has not yet received information regarding the extent of damage to infrastructure and agriculture, nor the number of casualties resulting from the adverse weather conditions.
