More than 17,500 families, or 64,461 individuals, have been affected by the combined effects of the southwest monsoon (habagat) and tropical cyclones Mirasol and Nando, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Friday.
The affected residents came from 95 barangays in Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas.
Of the total, 108 families are taking shelter in 15 evacuation centers, while 197 families are staying in other locations with assistance. The NDRRMC noted that the numbers remain subject to verification.
As of Friday morning, there are no confirmed deaths or casualties linked to the weather disturbances.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said Tropical Storm Nando (international name Ragasa) has slightly accelerated, moving westward at 20 kph over the Philippine Sea. The agency said Wind Signal No. 1 may be raised starting Saturday as Nando enhances the southwest monsoon.
