Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. on Monday dismissed claims labeling Mindanao as a “terror hotspot” following the Bondi tragedy in Australia.

The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) expressed condolences to the victims’ families and solidarity with the Australian people.

Galvez said OPAPRU “firmly rejects” allegations connecting the region to terrorism, noting they are not supported by intelligence.

“These claims are deeply unjust to the peace-loving people of Mindanao,” he added.

He highlighted the region’s transformation through peace agreements, the reintegration of former combatants, and the progress of the Bangsamoro peace process.

Galvez referenced President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s statements rejecting portrayals of the Philippines as a training ground for terrorism.

The President made the remarks during the 90th anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, stressing ongoing counterterrorism efforts.

National Security Adviser Eduardo Año said that short visits do not constitute meaningful terrorist training.

Galvez called on international media to exercise caution and avoid generalizations that stigmatize communities.

He urged focus on reconciliation, peace-building, and safeguarding the region’s hard-won stability.
