The Christmas season arrived a little brighter for 168 low-income households in Pasig City after One Meralco Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company, energized more homes through its Household Electrification Program.

The initiative provided families with access to safe, legal, and reliable electricity just in time for the holidays, reinforcing Meralco’s long-standing commitment to community upliftment and public safety.

Pasig City Mayor Ma. Regis “Vico” N. Sotto, Meralco Chief Revenue Officer and One Meralco Foundation trustee Engr. Ferdinand O. Geluz, and Meralco Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer and One Meralco Foundation president Jeffrey O. Tarayao led the ceremony marking the milestone, joined by city officials and Meralco leaders.

Mayor Sotto underscored the importance of the project, particularly in addressing the dangers posed by illegal electrical connections. He noted that the use of jumpers and submeters not only compromises safety but also places an unnecessary financial burden on residents.

Through close coordination among the local government, Meralco, and One Meralco Foundation, the city was able to establish a solution that ensures electricity service is both safe and fully compliant.

Geluz reaffirmed Meralco’s commitment to working hand in hand with local government units to improve the quality of life in the communities it serves. He said collaboration remains key to expanding access to dependable power, allowing more Filipinos to benefit from programs designed to promote safety, productivity, and long-term development.

Tarayao described the project as more than an electrification effort, but a reflection of shared bayanihan. He said the lights now glowing in Pasig homes symbolize hope, opportunity, and a collective commitment to empower communities, especially during a season centered on giving and unity.

Through its Household Electrification Program, One Meralco Foundation has now energized more than 80,000 households nationwide, directly supporting the national government’s goal of achieving 100 percent electrification by 2028.

Beyond lighting homes, the program continues to open doors for greater productivity, safer living conditions, and meaningful participation in community life for thousands of Filipino families.
