OCD orders regional offices to prepare for possible impact of Typhoon Champi

MANILA — The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has directed its regional offices to strengthen disaster preparedness measures ahead of the possible effects of Typhoon Champi.

The directive aims to ensure that local disaster response units are ready to address potential emergencies, including flooding, landslides, and other weather-related hazards.

Regional disaster management offices are being urged to coordinate closely with local government units and concerned agencies to strengthen preparedness and response capabilities.

Authorities are also emphasizing the importance of monitoring weather developments, identifying high-risk communities, and preparing evacuation facilities and emergency resources.

The OCD’s preparations come as state weather bureau PAGASA continues to monitor Typhoon Champi, which was reported outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on October 19.

Residents, particularly those living in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas, are advised to remain vigilant, prepare emergency supplies, and follow official weather advisories and evacuation instructions.

The public is also encouraged to monitor updates from PAGASA, the OCD, and local disaster risk reduction and management offices as the weather system develops.
