MANILA – Harry Ocay came up with a brilliant performance in leading 3B to a 25-18, 25-12, 23-25, 25-21 victory over the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in the 2026 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan on Wednesday.
Ocay delivered 21 points on 18 attacks, two aces, and one block, along with 15 excellent receptions as the Event Masters secured its first win in two outings.
“Yung mindset ko lang is kailangan ko tumulong sa team ko and kailangan kong pumasok, dumepensa, and pumatay ng bola (My mindset is simply that I need to help my team – I have to get in there, play defense, and put the ball away),” the Jose Rizal University standout said.
Ocay, who scored 23 points in the Event Masters’ 25-21, 15-25, 22-25, 16-25 loss to the ClearSkiiin UV Smashers on Oct. 15, got ample support from his teammates.
Carl Berdal contributed 19 points and 16 excellent receptions, while Christhian Olaes and Ralph Cabalsa scored 12 points in nearly two hours of action.
Dominic Castaneda dished out 21 excellent sets, while Joemar Naife and Joshua Datu anchored the floor defense with 10 and nine excellent digs, respectively.
“So sabi ko sa mga players ko, ito na ‘yung isang team na pwede naming talunin, so trabahuhin na namin. Nung third set, nadikitan kami kasi nagpasok kami ng stringers para at least ma-experience nila ‘yung live court (So I told my players that this was a team we could beat, and that we should put in the work. In the third set, the score got close because we brought in our reserves. We wanted them to get some experience on the actual court),” Event Masters head coach Arjay Francisco said.
Ranran Abdilla finished with 26 points on 24 attacks, one ace, and one block, along with 11 excellent receptions for the Cavaliers, who took their second straight loss.
Herald Domingo contributed 10 points, while Edwin Tolentino and Kevin Liberato had eight points apiece. (Jean Malanum/PNA)
