MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday guaranteed that some one million voters found to have multiple registrations will still be able to vote in the May 2025 polls.

Comelec Chair George Erwin Garcia Garcia said the poll body cannot deprive a Filipino of the constitutional right to vote.

“We won’t delete the registrations of a double or multiple registrant. There will be one left,” Garcia said in a radio interview.

Garcia explained that the original registration record of the voter will be retained.

“We will, however, delete the subsequent registrations so that only one data will be left come the 2025 elections,” he said.

On Monday, the Comelec reported that its Automated Fingerprint Identification System detected an estimated one million registered voters with double or multiple registrations. (PNA)
