KORONADAL CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 12 (Soccsksargen) inaugurated the P68.7 million Buntalan Bridge in Malungon, Sarangani province, on Wednesday, enhancing connectivity between far-flung communities and nearby towns.

“The bridge will transform the local economic landscape by connecting the barangays of Upper and Lower Mainit, San Juan, Upper Lumabat, Banamin, San Roque, and San Miguel. It will improve mobility and accessibility for the local population,” DPWH-Sarangani District Engineer Rey Francisco said.

According to Francisco, the  bridge facilitates easier access to the neighboring town of Sta. Maria in Davao Occidental, fostering trade and economic growth. He highlighted the bridge’s durability, saying it was constructed to the highest standards to withstand disasters.

“This project aims to reduce transportation and logistics costs, benefiting local traders and farmers while opening new business opportunities for the surrounding communities,” Francisco said.

In a statement on Thursday, the DPWH Sarangani District Engineering Office said the 60-meter concrete bridge, built under the 2024 General Appropriations Act, links at least seven barangays to Malungon’s Poblacion via the Sta. Maria Bypass Road. The bridge includes approaches and a flood control structure.

Representative Steve Solon of Sarangani’s Lone District and Malungon Mayor Maria Theresa Constantino attended the turnover ceremony.
