Netflix announced on Saturday that the highly anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson attracted 60 million households globally, with a peak of 65 million streams.
The bout, which saw Paul, the 27-year-old social media star turned boxer, defeat the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion Tyson, was broadcast live on Netflix.
In addition, the co-main event featuring Ireland’s lightweight champion Katie Taylor and Puerto Rico’s featherweight champion Amanda Serrano drew nearly 50 million households.
“Nearly 50 million households globally tuned in live for the co-main event of Taylor vs. Serrano 2—the bout is likely to be the most watched professional women’s sporting event in U.S. history,” Netflix said.
While the event drew huge viewership, there were technical issues during the live-stream, with over 90,000 users reporting disruptions, according to outage tracker Downdetector.
“The boxing mega-event dominated social media, shattered records, and even had our buffering systems on the ropes,” Netflix added.
Despite this, Netflix resolved the issue after approximately six hours, with the service fully restored in the United States on Saturday.
