UNITED NATIONS — Nearly 400,000 people in Gaza have been displaced again following the resumption of Israeli military operations, with ongoing attacks causing “large-scale civilian casualties,” the UN said Monday.
“Survivors across Gaza are being displaced repeatedly and forced into an ever-shrinking space where their basic needs just cannot be met,” said UN Secretary-General’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric. He added that the current displacement is on top of the mass movement already caused since the war began in October 2023, when Hamas launched a deadly raid into Israel.
In a joint statement, leaders of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, WHO, UNICEF, and World Food Program urged world leaders to act “firmly, urgently and decisively” to uphold international humanitarian law.
They emphasized that Gazans are being “trapped, bombed and starved again,” with vital aid supplies blocked at crossing points due to Israel’s humanitarian and commercial blockade now in its second month.
“Assertions that there is now enough food to feed all Palestinians in Gaza are far from the reality on the ground,” the agencies warned. “We are witnessing acts of war in Gaza that show an utter disregard for human life.”
