The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has captured a fugitive wanted for his alleged involvement in a high-profile kidnapping and homicide case that rocked Quezon City last year.
Acting on the directive of NBI director, Jaime B. Santiago, to intensify the agency’s campaign against violent crime, operatives from the NBI Homicide Division (NBI-HD) arrested Pio Jonathan Eulalio on May 31, 2025, in Barangay Liwayway, Santa Rosa, Nueva Ecija.
Eulalio was the subject of a warrant of arrest issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 215 in Quezon City for Kidnapping for Ransom with Homicide and Homicide.
The charges stem from the tragic events of June 10, 2024, when Christian Ortega was killed and Gloria Ortega was abducted for ransom in Baesa, Quezon City. A month later, on July 12, 2024, the decomposing body of Gloria Ortega was discovered, confirming the worst fears of her family and investigators.
The NBI’s Homicide Division, in coordination with its Organized and Transnational Crime Division (OTCD) and Public Corruption Division (PCD), launched an extensive investigation that led to the earlier arrest of two suspects. They were presented for inquest before the Department of Justice in July 2024.
Following the issuance of the arrest warrant for Eulalio on February 21, 2025, agents tracked his movements and located his hideout in Nueva Ecija after weeks of surveillance.
His arrest was carried out without incident. Eulalio was transported to the NBI Main Office in Pasay City for standard processing and a medical examination. He has since been turned over to the NBI Jail Facility in Muntinlupa City, pending his transfer to Quezon City Jail.
Santiago praised the relentless efforts of the NBI-HD operatives, saying, “This arrest demonstrates our unwavering commitment to bringing justice to the victims and ensuring that fugitives will find no safe haven.”
