The National Bureau of Investigation has identified the persons believed to be behind the recent defacement of several government websites, NBI Director Melvin Matibag said Monday.
The websites of the NBI, Senate, and House of Representatives were hit in separate defacement incidents over the weekend.
Matibag said investigators had already traced the suspected individuals involved in the attacks.
He said different persons allegedly carried out the website defacements, but they were believed to be linked to the same group.
The NBI chief declined to name the suspects while the bureau continued its investigation.
Matibag said investigators still had to complete their cybercrime assessment before recommending the filing of charges.
He also assured the public that no sensitive data were affected by the website defacements.
Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center Director Renato Paraiso said the hackers could face possible charges for computer manipulation and malicious mischief.
