The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has raised an alert as fraudulent activities surge during the holiday season, including fake online stories, phishing messages, and deceptive payment links.
Authorities noted that scammers are using sophisticated tactics, often copying logos and branding of well-known retailers to trick users into revealing personal or financial information.
The bureau reminded the public, “If an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.”
People are urged to verify the legitimacy of sellers and online platforms before making any transactions.
The NBI advised caution against clicking on suspicious links sent via SMS or email from unknown sources.
Individuals are also reminded to safeguard sensitive information, including passwords, banking details, and one-time passwords (OTPs).
The bureau encouraged victims of scams to report incidents promptly and preserve evidence such as screenshots, receipts, and message records.
Complaints can be filed at NBI Cybercrime Division offices, regional branches, or online through the e-complaint portal at nbi.gov.ph, and the public can also contact the national anti-scam hotline at 1326.
