MANILA – The Philippine Navy (PN) is investigating alleged social media posts by one of its reservists regarding a riot in San Andres, Manila, that drew criticism for being offensive.

“The PN is looking into the recent online posts made by (the reported) PN reservist, concerning the youth disturbance in San Andres Bukid, Manila,” Navy spokesperson Captain Marissa Martinez said in a message to reporters.

The posts said the reservist allegedly finds the riot boring without anyone dying. Martinez said an investigation will be conducted.

“Should the investigation confirm any violation of applicable military rules and regulations, (the reservist) may face appropriate sanctions, including dishonorable discharge from the Reserve Force,” she said.

Martinez stressed the PN “does not tolerate any remarks that incite violence or show disregard for human life, as these are contrary to the standards of discipline and core values expected of all Navy personnel, including members of the Reserve Force.”

“The PN remains committed to upholding the highest standards of discipline, accountability, and professionalism among all its personnel, whether in the Regular or Reserve Force,” he added. (PNA)
