National University One Win Away from Playoff Spot in Filoil Preseason Cup

National University (NU) is just one win away from securing a playoff spot in the 18th Filoil Preseason Cup. The Bulldogs can clinch the last crossover quarterfinal berth when they face Far Eastern University (FEU) on Sunday in San Juan City. After starting the premier preseason league with a 0-2 record, NU has bounced back, winning two of its last three games, thanks to improved defensive intensity from players like Steve Nash Enriquez and Jolo Manansala.

“Kahit papaano, kahit konti, maganda na yung nagiging takbo ng team namin at unti-unti, nababalik na namin yung gusto naming makita sa team,” said coach Jeff Napa following his team’s 61-46 victory over Adamson last Friday.

The Bulldogs appear to be peaking at the right time, posing a challenge for the Tamaraws, who have lost two of their last three games after a strong 2-0 start. Coach Sean Chambers is optimistic that his team can recover from a tough 90-66 loss to La Salle last Friday, relying on Jorick Bautista and Mo Konateh to perform better in their upcoming match.

Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. on the penultimate day of the elimination round.

Earlier in the day, College of Saint Benilde (6-1) will face Emilio Aguinaldo College (6-2) at 10:00 a.m., with the winner securing a top two spot in the NCAA Bracket. The Blazers are coming off a dominant 102-64 victory over San Beda University, led by Tony Ynot and Ian Torres.

Meanwhile, the Generals are seeking redemption after a 70-66 loss to the Red Lions last Friday, aiming to prove their competitiveness in NCAA Season 101.

Undefeated De La Salle University (4-0) will also look to secure a top two spot in the UAAP Bracket when they take on winless University of the East (0-5) at 4:00 p.m. Additionally, San Beda (3-4) and Lyceum of the Philippines University (1-6) will meet at 2:00 p.m. to conclude the quadruple-header.
