The National Police Commission (Napolcom) called for a separate administrative investigation after the Philippine National Police (PNP) resolved the killing of Police Senior Master Sergeant Diane Marie Mollenido and her eight-year-old son, John Ysmael.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the case is considered closed, with several suspects already detained.
Napolcom Commissioner Rafael Vicente Calinisan acknowledged the PNP’s swift and coordinated response but stressed the need for closer oversight because a police officer is reportedly involved.
The victims went missing in January 2026 after leaving their Quezon City home related to a vehicle transaction. Their bodies were later recovered in different locations, with forensic findings indicating death by asphyxiation.
Investigations led to the arrest of multiple suspects, including a car agent, her partner, and the victims’ husband, Police Senior Master Sergeant John Mollenido.
Calinisan directed Napolcom’s Inspection, Monitoring, and Investigation Service to conduct an independent review alongside police investigators to ensure a thorough and impartial process.
The commission said it remains committed to supporting the PNP, ensuring all responsible parties are held accountable, and protecting the integrity of the police service.
