CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) 10 (Northern Mindanao) reported on Wednesday that inflation in the region for all income households accelerated to 8.2 percent in April.

In a press briefing, PSA-10 Director Janith Aves said this compares to 4.6 percent in March and 0.1 percent in the same month last year.

“The inflation in Northern Mindanao in April 2026 was driven by food and non-alcoholic beverages; transport; and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels,” she said, attributing the recent increase in fuel prices to the Middle East conflict.

Aves also said the peso’s purchasing power in Northern Mindanao stood at 0.73 in April, noting that PHP100 in 2018 is equivalent to only PHP73 in goods and services last month.

Meanwhile, Ferdinand Caraballe, supervising agriculturist of the Department of Agriculture 10, said supply monitoring, especially of farmers’ inputs, was prioritized to maintain stable market prices and ensure sustainable food security amid inflation setbacks. (PNA)
