In response to the severe flooding and damage caused by the recent onslaught of the Southwest Monsoon and Tropical Storms “Crising,” “Dante,” and “Emong,” the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS RO) has stepped in to ease the burden on affected communities.
MWSS RO has officially ordered water concessionaires — Manila Water Company, Inc. and Maynilad Water Services, Inc. — to temporarily suspend all water service disconnection activities for non-payment of bills within their service areas. The moratorium will be in effect for fifteen days, from July 25 to August 8, 2025.
However, the suspension does not apply to cases involving illegal activities such as water service tampering or violations of Republic Act No. 8041, also known as the Water Crisis Act.
“In these challenging times, access to clean and safe water is not a luxury — it’s a lifeline,” said Chief Regulator Patrick Lester N. Ty. “We are ensuring that households affected by the recent storms won’t be cut off from such a vital resource.”
The MWSS RO has also directed both concessionaires to prioritize and maintain an uninterrupted water supply throughout their coverage areas to help safeguard public health.
With thousands of families still recovering from the storm’s aftermath, the regulatory body reiterated its commitment to consumer welfare and pledged continued support through proactive and compassionate measures.
