A motorcycle rider in Pasay City was robbed on Monday, losing money intended for his 10-month-old child’s medical treatment, ABS-CBN News reported.
According to PMaj. Allan Valdez, Chief Investigator of the Pasay City Police Station’s Investigation and Detective Management Section, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. as the victim was resting along the service road of Roxas Boulevard in Barangay 76.
Two men approached him, struck him on the head, and knocked him unconscious. They stole his motorcycle, cellphone, wallet, and most importantly, the cash he had brought for his child’s hospital expenses.
“He’s a father. Of course, when you find out that your child is sick, your first instinct is to use whatever cash you have on hand to help… But because of what happened, the money he had brought could no longer make it,” Valdez stated.
When the victim regained consciousness, he rushed to the hospital, only to find that his child had already died.
The case immediately went viral on social media, with many expressing anger and sympathy.
Authorities have arrested two suspects after identifying them through CCTV footage. Both men have prior criminal records linked to gambling and drugs.
They have denied committing the robbery. One of them said, “If it was really us, everything would be returned,” while the other claimed they were misidentified.
The suspects now face multiple charges of robbery, carnapping, and perjury.
