MMDA urges LGUs to open gated-village roads ahead of Christmas traffic surge

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) plans to recommend that local government units (LGUs) open roads inside gated villages to help ease expected heavy traffic during the Christmas season.

The appeal comes as part of broader holiday-traffic management efforts, including deploying additional enforcers across Metro Manila.

MMDA officials said that granting access to private village roads could provide alternate routes and relieve congestion on major thoroughfares.

Some local officials may resist, citing concerns over security, access control, and the administrative burden of opening and re-securing village gates.

Meanwhile, the agency continues activating its pre-holiday traffic protocols — such as suspending roadworks and maximizing traffic enforcement — to manage the holiday rush.
