MMA prospect disqualified from boxing match after using head kick to knock out opponent

ONE Championship fighter Idris Abdurashitov knocked out opponent Bagher Faraji with a ferocious head kick in their featherweight match on Sunday.

The problem is, Abdurashitov and Faraji were participating in a boxing match — not an MMA bout.

Faraji appeared to have the upper hand in the fight based on the brief footage available, putting Abdurashitov on the defensive with a quick jab and solid left punch to the face. The two then tangled up on the ropes, and as Faraji backed away, Abdurashitov snapped a kick off and the Iranian boxer fell to the mat.

The Russian fighter was immediately disqualified for his actions, but Abdurashitov can’t be too remorseful for using a head kick in a boxing match, considering that he posted video of the incident on social media.

The 21-year-old Abdurashitov, whose nickname is “Aggressor,” has a 4-0 record in MMA and made his successful ONE Championship debut in September with a second-round knockout of Kazakbai Tilenov.

His career as a boxer, however, may not be in the cards.
