TOKYO – Mitsubishi Motors Corp. announced Thursday that it will launch its first new Pajero sport utility vehicle (SUV) model in seven years in Japan on December 17, with prices starting at 6.19 million yen, or approximately Php 2.5 million.
The Japanese automaker said preorders, which opened earlier this month, have already reached around 5,500 units, surpassing its sales target of 4,000 vehicles for the current fiscal year.
Mitsubishi Motors President Keisuke Kishiura expressed confidence in the redesigned SUV, citing improvements in the company’s automotive technologies.
“We have improved our original technologies,” Kishiura said. “We aim to establish the Pajero’s position (in the increasingly competitive SUV market).”
The company unveiled the new global Pajero model in September as part of its efforts to strengthen its presence in the competitive SUV segment.
For the Japanese market, Mitsubishi will introduce two versions of the vehicle, one designed for off-road performance and another focused on luxury and comfort.
Each version will be available in two grades, providing customers with four options based on their driving preferences and needs.
The new Pajero made its market debut in Thailand on October 19, where sales have already exceeded 1,500 units.
Mitsubishi also plans to introduce the SUV in Australia later this year as it expands the model’s availability in international markets.
The upcoming Japanese launch marks the return of the Pajero nameplate with a new-generation model aimed at attracting both adventure-oriented drivers and customers seeking a premium SUV.
