CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The provincial government of Misamis Oriental launched this week PHP79.8 million worth of infrastructure projects across all local government units (LGUs).

On Wednesday, at least PHP58 million worth of projects held groundbreaking and capsule-laying ceremonies, mostly benefiting hinterland barangays.

The LGUs with infrastructure projects covered the municipalities of Magsaysay, Medina, Talisayan, Konoguitan, Sugbongcogon, and Gingoog City.

The projects are expected to be completed within the targeted period of nearly two months, consistent with Governor Juliette Uy’s directive to expedite project implementation so residents can benefit from the infrastructure improvements as soon as possible.

The series of groundbreaking and capsule-laying ceremonies will continue across the province’s municipalities and cities throughout the week.

Meanwhile, since most projects include farm-to-market roads, the provincial government also reviewed the agriculture sector that might be affected by the Super El Niño.

Information officer-in-charge Joanne Tabique said careful planning is necessary, particularly as the province has vast agricultural areas that could be severely affected by drought.

Measures under consideration include identifying alternative water sources for farmlands and preparing solutions for households that may face water shortages.

“We are also preparing measures for hydration and related medical needs in our Misamis Oriental Provincial Hospital (MOPH) network. During this period, skin burns and dehydration are among the common health problems associated with El Niño,” Tabique said.
