The Manila Electric Company (Meralco), led by business titan Manuel V. Pangilinan, made waves at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards in Seoul, South Korea, bringing home a total of 11 awards for its groundbreaking efforts in sustainability, innovation, and social responsibility.

Headlining Meralco’s wins were three Gold Stevie Awards, two of which recognized MTerra Solar, A Global Breakthrough: The World’s Largest Integrated Solar and Battery Facility. The massive renewable energy project earned top honors in both Sustainability & Climate Protection Services and Product Design & Development. MTerra Solar has the capacity to supply clean electricity to roughly 2.4 million homes while preventing approximately 4.3 million tons of carbon emissions annually—equivalent to taking over 3 million gas-powered cars off the road. The facility exemplifies Meralco’s strong commitment to renewable energy and its push toward a coal-free future.

The project also garnered a Bronze Stevie in the Sustainable Business Models category. According to Stevie Awards organizers, MTerra Solar represents a major leap forward in meeting the Philippines’ energy demands while aligning with Meralco’s vision of clean, coal-free power.

Another Gold Stevie was awarded to Raymond B. Ravelo, Meralco’s First Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer, who was named Climate Hero of the Year. Ravelo was honored for his role in leading the company’s transformation into a sustainability-driven energy provider, overseeing initiatives that emphasize strong governance, innovation, and environmental responsibility.

“These global accolades confirm our belief that doing right by the planet, people, and communities is also good business,” said Ravelo. “This recognition fuels our drive to build a more sustainable and inclusive energy future.”

Meralco’s internal and community-driven projects also earned accolades. A Silver Stevie was awarded for the company’s Race to Zero Waste Program, which achieved an impressive 95% waste diversion rate—far exceeding industry averages. The initiative embedded reusability and recycling practices across all Meralco sites, engaging employees, partners, and local communities in its efforts.

Bronze Stevies were awarded across multiple categories, showcasing the depth of Meralco’s initiatives:

  • Meralco Powering the Good Life was honored under the Climate Protection and Sustainability Campaign category for championing clean energy and inclusive development rooted in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
  • BulacanSol: Meralco’s Road to a Coal-Free Future by 2050 was recognized for its strategic role in helping Meralco shift to clean energy in an affordable and orderly manner.
  • Meralco’s #Mbrace Diversity and Inclusion Program was celebrated for fostering inclusive workplace practices and supporting underrepresented communities including women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and persons with disabilities.
  • Pangako: The 2023 Annual and Sustainability Report was acknowledged under the Innovation in Annual Reports category for its transparent, comprehensive coverage of the company’s financial and sustainability performance.
  • Pangarap: Creating a Better World for Dreamers Through Community Empowerment was also recognized in the same category for its stories of grassroots transformation through the One Meralco Foundation.
  • Meralco Liwanag Park earned recognition in the Internal Corporate Events category for honoring partnerships and celebrating community engagement through a unique event that embodied the spirit of bayanihan and sustainability.

The winners were selected by over 120 global professionals who served as judges for this year’s awards. Stevie Awards President Maggie Miller noted the exceptional quality of this year’s entries, saying, “The submissions in the twelfth edition of the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards were outstanding. The judges found the innovation and perseverance truly inspiring.”

Now in its 12th year, the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards drew over 1,000 entries from organizations across 29 countries. The Stevie Awards are widely recognized as the world’s premier business awards, honoring excellence in the workplace for more than 20 years.
