Meralco announced that it is closely monitoring the weather situation as Tropical Depression Isang affects several areas, bringing heavy rains and flooding. The power distributor assured customers that its crews are ready to respond to any electricity-related concerns.
The company reminded the public to take extra precautions against potential electrical hazards, especially in flood-prone areas. Meralco advised customers to immediately switch off the main power supply or circuit breaker if floodwaters enter their homes and ensure hands and surroundings are dry before handling any electrical facility.
“Customers are also reminded to avoid contact with exposed electrical wires; unplug appliances from wall sockets; and to turn off permanently connected equipment if possible,” the power firm said.
Meralco also encouraged customers to have a licensed electrician inspect electrical equipment after floodwaters recede in case of suspected water damage. It strongly warned against touching circuit breakers or replacing fuses with wet hands or while standing on wet surfaces.
“We encourage our customers to be extra vigilant this rainy season and to observe safety measures before, during, and after a flood,” said Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe Zaldarriaga.
