The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has intensified safety preparations in Manila ahead of the annual Feast of Jesús Nazareno on January 9, 2026, as millions of devotees are once again expected to flock to Quiapo for the Traslacion.

Earlier this week, Meralco personnel conducted wire-clearing operations along key sections of the procession route, including Arlegui Street, where sagging and tangled cables were removed on January 7.

The utility also carried out inspections of power lines and utility poles in the area to reduce risks and help ensure a safe, peaceful, and orderly procession.

Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga said the operations were carried out in close coordination with the Manila local government unit, as well as telecommunications and cable service providers, with public safety as the top priority.

Wire-clearing activities form part of Meralco’s regular maintenance program across its franchise area, reflecting the company’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding the public while continuing to deliver reliable and stable electricity service to millions of customers, especially during large-scale religious and civic events.
