The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has reassured customers that those with pending billing complaints will not have their electricity service disconnected while their cases are being reviewed, as the company moved to clear up misinformation circulating on social media.
Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga emphasized that customers who formally raise billing disputes are not required to settle the contested amount until the company’s review has been completed.
“We would like to clarify that Meralco customers with pending billing concerns are not required to pay the disputed amount while their cases are under review, nor will the electric service be disconnected during the investigation,” Zaldarriaga said.
The company also reminded customers that disconnection activities remain suspended nationwide for all unpaid electricity bills covering the May to July 2026 billing periods, in compliance with an earlier directive from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
“We also reiterate that disconnection activities for all consumers with unpaid balances covering the May to July billing periods remain suspended,” he said.
Meralco issued the clarification following the spread of online posts and public discussions that raised concerns about electricity bills and possible service disconnections.
The power distributor encouraged customers with questions about their bills, electricity consumption, or meter readings to reach out through its official customer service channels, where concerns are evaluated and resolved on a case-by-case basis.
“We continuously address the concerns of all customers regarding their electricity bills, consumption, or meter reading through our official customer touch points. Rest assured that we have been diligently reviewing and resolving every customer concern brought to our attention,” Zaldarriaga said.
Meralco reiterated its commitment to providing timely assistance and transparent communication, assuring customers that all legitimate billing concerns will continue to receive due attention while the ERC-ordered suspension of disconnection activities remains in effect.
