SUPPORTING ECONOMIC HUBS. Meralco has recently commissioned the ASEANA 115 kV-34.5 kV GIS Substation in Parañaque City to ensure a more reliable and stable power supply to serve the booming ASEANA City and nearby developments.
In a bold move to meet the surging energy needs of Metro Manila’s southern growth corridor, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco), led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, has energized a state-of-the-art smart substation in Parañaque City—an infrastructure boost set to power key economic zones in the area.
Located in ASEANA City, the newly commissioned ASEANA 115kV–34.5kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation is designed to ensure a stable and reliable power supply for major commercial and business developments. Among its beneficiaries are prominent establishments such as Ayala Malls Manila Bay, Seda Manila Bay, ASEANA 3, Sequoia Hotel, Platinum Tower, and Uni-Asia International Prime Holdings Inc.
This advanced substation is more than just a power facility—it’s a leap toward smarter energy. Outfitted with the latest in network automation technology, it supports Meralco’s vision of building a resilient and future-ready grid.
The project involved the installation of:
- An 83-megavolt-ampere (MVA) power transformer
- Indoor GIS switchgears at 115 kV and 34.5 kV
- A 14.4 MVAr capacitor bank
- A 1.2-ohm neutral reactor
- A dedicated GIS building with modern protection and control systems
With this infrastructure in place, Meralco is set to significantly improve power distribution in the area. The substation also lightens the load on existing PAGCOR-1 transformer banks and introduces enhanced switching capabilities during power outages or emergencies.
Another major win: reduced system losses. Meralco estimates that the new facility will cut system losses by over 373,000 kilowatt-hours, translating to real cost savings for consumers.
“This energization marks a major milestone in our commitment to support Metro Manila’s fast-expanding economic hubs,” said Froilan J. Savet, Meralco First Vice President and Head of Networks. “We’re investing in critical infrastructure to make sure our customers enjoy safe, stable, and reliable electricity—today and into the future.”
As Metro Manila continues to evolve, Meralco’s investments like the ASEANA Substation ensure that the lights—and progress—stay on.
