Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is stepping up efforts to modernize its distribution network through expanded investments in smarter, safer, and more efficient metering technologies.
At the center of this initiative is the company’s Elevated Metering Transformation (EMX), an upgraded version of its Elevated Metering Center designed to improve the security, accuracy, and overall performance of electricity metering facilities.
Integrated with Meralco’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure, EMX allows remote meter reading as well as remote disconnection and reconnection of electricity service. The technology also gives Meralco better visibility across its distribution network, enabling the company to detect potential irregularities, unauthorized connections, and electricity pilferage at an earlier stage.
By reducing the need for certain on-site activities, EMX helps field teams respond more efficiently while strengthening the integrity of the metering system. It also supports Meralco’s continuing campaign to minimize avoidable non-technical system losses and provide customers with more dependable service.
The EMX program forms part of Meralco’s broader grid modernization strategy, which includes the deployment of smart grid technologies and upgraded infrastructure across its franchise area.
These investments are aimed at improving the reliability, efficiency, and resilience of the distribution network as electricity demand continues to grow.
