More than 3,000 residents of Polillo Island, Quezon, now have reliable access to essential medical services after the One Meralco Foundation (OMF) energized a rural health station with solar power.

Through a three-kilowatt peak (kWp) solar photovoltaic system, the Barangay Rizal Health Station in the municipality of Panukulan can now operate medical equipment such as nebulizers for asthma patients and fetal dopplers for expectant mothers.

Before the project, the facility—located in an off-grid barangay—had no electricity. Residents seeking even the most basic healthcare had to travel for hours by boat to reach the nearest rural health unit in the town proper.

This initiative is part of OMF’s community electrification program, which extends solar power to underserved areas. In 2024, the foundation also energized a health station in Sitio Kolonbong, Barangay Lamfugon, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. Beyond rural health centers, the program also covers off-grid public schools, low-income households within the Meralco franchise area, water access projects, and agricultural and livelihood support.

By powering rural health facilities, OMF continues to bring light, health, and hope to communities that need them most.
