Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) showcased its initiatives and advocacies supporting the Philippines’ transition to e-mobility during the 12th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit, held from October 24 to 26, 2024, at the SMX Convention Center Manila in Pasay City.
Meralco’s booth at the 12th PEVS displayed its Electric Vehicle (EV) Adoption Program pillars and EV Chargers of Movem Electric, Inc.—its wholly owned integrated electric mobility solutions provider.
“This year’s theme, ‘Spark Change, Drive Electric,’ is more than a call to action. It reflects our shared belief that the time for sustainable mobility is now. Together, we have the chance to shape a future where electric vehicles aren’t just an option but a vital part of efficient everyday living,” Aperocho said.
“At Meralco, we are fully committed to enabling this transformation. We’re strengthening the grid, powering EV infrastructure, and electrifying our fleet through our mobility program, with over 150 vehicles converted since 2020. By the end of the decade, 25% of our fleet will be electric,” Aperocho said.
Meralco’s EV Adoption Program has three pillars: The power distributor aims to be an Enabler by setting up the EV ecosystem through a robust EV charging infrastructure, an End-user by walking the talk through the conversion of its fleet to EV, and a Player by inducing the EV market take-up through charging station programs.
In his message, Meralco executive vice president and chief operating officer Ronnie L. Aperocho reaffirmed the company’s commitment to enable the shift to EVs and support the country’s transition towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation systems.
