Mactan-Cebu International Airport Terminal 2 – a Skytrax 4-Star Terminal
Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), managed by Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation (ACAC), is set for a dynamic year following significant operational and sustainability milestones in 2024.
As the Philippines’ second-busiest airport, MCIA operates under Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC), which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. AIC is also preparing to manage the concessions for Laguindingan International Airport in Misamis Oriental and Bohol-Panglao International Airport in Bohol, the country’s sixth- and ninth-busiest airports, respectively. AIC’s official takeover of these facilities is scheduled for April and June 2025.
“MCIA and our broader airport network aim to redefine travel with world-class operations, sustainable initiatives, and cultural integration. As AIC marks its 10th year, we take pride in MCIA’s accomplishments,” said AIC president & CEO Cosette V. Canilao.
AIC vice president and head of Airports Business Rafael M. Aboitiz added, “We are dedicated to delivering an outstanding airport experience that enhances connectivity while prioritizing environmental and community responsibilities.”

Enhancing operational excellence
MCIA advanced its operational efficiency in 2024 through strategic partnerships, including collaborating with Cebu Pacific to improve passenger experiences. The airport also welcomed United Airlines flights in July 2024, expanding its international reach. Additionally, MCIA launched Cebu Connect, an initiative to streamline air-to-air travel transfers.
Building on this momentum, February 2025 saw the introduction of Cebu+, a joint initiative between MCIA, Mactan Wharf Corporation, and Supercat Fast Ferry Corporation. This project enhances airport-to-seaport connectivity, making travel to key island destinations more seamless.
MCIA’s commitment to accessibility was recognized with Level 1 Accessibility Accreditation from Airports Council International (ACI), highlighting its dedication to inclusive facilities. The airport also wrapped up its Abiba Sugbo campaign, reinforcing efforts to secure the Best Airport Staff title at the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2025.
These advancements contributed to a record-breaking 11.3 million passengers passing through MCIA in 2024, a 13% increase from the previous year.
“MCIA’s 2024 milestones highlight our commitment to providing an efficient, sustainable, and uniquely Filipino airport experience. We are excited about the future and remain focused on enhancing the journey for every traveler,” said MCIA CEO Athanasios Titonis.
Leading the way in sustainability
MCIA has emerged as a leader in sustainable airport operations. It became the first Philippine airport to earn a Platinum Green Airport Award and achieve Airport Carbon Accreditation in 2024. The airport also transitioned to sustainable Bridge-Mounted Equipment for aircraft, reducing carbon emissions and cutting operational costs.
Furthering its green efforts, MCIA signed a memorandum of understanding with ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East in October 2024 to accelerate its Net Zero Roadmap. The airport also pioneered the Silent Airport initiative in the Philippines, enhancing passenger experience through a quieter and more serene environment.
Promoting culture and tourism
A landmark cultural highlight in 2024 was the unveiling of National Artist for Film Kidlat Tahimik’s “Indio-Genius: Balikbayan #1 and 500 Years of Homecoming to Cebu” installation at MCIA Terminal 2. This iconic artwork enhances the airport’s reputation as a hub of Filipino heritage.
Additionally, MCIA partnered with the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry to host the Cebu Tourism Investment Forum, aligning with Cebu Province’s 455th anniversary. This initiative underscores MCIA’s role in advancing sustainable tourism in the region.
A future-ready airport
MCIA’s progress was further reinforced in late 2024 by AIC’s complete acquisition of Aboitiz InfraCapital GMCAC, now ACAC, streamlining operational strategies for the airport’s future.
With groundbreaking achievements, innovative partnerships, and sustainability initiatives, Aboitiz InfraCapital continues to redefine world-class airport experiences in the Philippines, ensuring MCIA remains at the forefront of global aviation standards.
