Maya is letting AI help pick its next hires—but there’s a catch

Artificial intelligence is no longer just helping Maya fight fraud, personalize financial services or make faster credit decisions. It is now helping the fintech giant find the people it wants to hire.

Maya is bringing its AI-first philosophy into human resources, using artificial intelligence across recruitment and employee experiences as it looks to reshape how candidates are discovered, hired and welcomed into the company.

But Maya insists there is one line AI will not cross: humans still make the hiring decisions.

The Philippine digital financial services platform said it uses AI-assisted search to identify prospective employees based on relevant skills and experience, while AI-powered tools help recruiters personalize their outreach to candidates.

Recruiters and business leaders, however, retain responsibility for deciding who ultimately joins the company.

“For us, being AI-first is not about replacing human judgment. It is about using technology to remove friction, make better decisions and help people focus on work that creates value,” said Maya Chief People Officer Carla G. Lanza.

The strategy signals how rapidly AI is moving beyond customer-facing applications and deeper into corporate operations—including one of the most human parts of any business: finding and managing talent.

AI enters Maya’s workplace
Maya has long used AI across its digital financial ecosystem, including customer acquisition, personalization, customer service, credit, fraud prevention and operations.

Now, the company is extending that technology to its workforce.

Beyond AI-assisted recruitment, Maya has revamped employer branding to give prospective employees a clearer picture of available positions, workplace expectations and career opportunities before they even apply.

Its onboarding system provides structured support beginning before an employee’s first day and continuing through integration into the organization.

Employee engagement initiatives, meanwhile, are designed to connect teams more closely with customers and the company’s broader mission while incorporating recognition and wellbeing programs.

“We are applying the same attention to simplicity, relevance and experience that shapes our products to how we build our teams and culture,” Lanza said.

Maya’s AI gamble wins seven Stevie honors
The company’s approach has already attracted international recognition, with Maya collecting seven honors at the 2026 Stevie® Awards for Great Employers.

Maya received a Silver Stevie® Award for Experience-Driven Employer Branding and Bronze awards for Scaling High-Quality Hiring with Embedded AI, Engineering Engagement that Creates a BOLDER Culture, and Designing a Purpose-Driven, End-to-End Onboarding Experience at Scale.

Lanza also received the Silver Stevie® Award for Chief Human Resources Officer of the Year.

Employee Engagement Manager Andrea Agatha Pascual captured the Gold Stevie® Award for Employee Engagement Professional of the Year, while Senior Lead for Payroll Rose Ann Belangoy earned a Bronze Stevie® Award for Benefits or Payroll Professional of the Year.

More than 160 professionals worldwide participated in judging the awards. Winners in the Employer of the Year categories were determined through a combination of professional judges’ ratings and more than 178,000 public votes.

Is AI the future of hiring?
For Maya, the answer appears increasingly clear.

The company is betting that AI can do for talent management what it has already done across parts of digital finance: process information faster, reduce repetitive work and help people make better-informed decisions.

The bigger question is whether other Philippine companies will follow.

As artificial intelligence moves deeper into the workplace, Maya’s experiment offers a glimpse of a future in which your next job application may be evaluated with help from AI long before you ever speak to a recruiter.

For Maya, however, the final call still belongs to a human.
