Valentine’s Day this year carried a deeper meaning for Matteo Guidicelli and Sarah Geronimo—one shaped not just by romance, but by resilience, gratitude, and grace.
On the morning of February 14, the couple joined the Guidicelli family for a 9 a.m. Mass and blessing of the newly repaired Da Gianni restaurant at Westgate Center in Alabang. Less than a week earlier, a vehicle had rammed into the restaurant’s al fresco dining area, leaving visible damage and prompting immediate safety concerns.
Now, the once-wrecked space stands restored—bright, orderly, and welcoming once more. But beyond the physical repairs, the day symbolized something far more personal: healing and a conscious decision to move forward.
In an Instagram Reel documenting the blessing, Matteo shared a message that framed the moment not around loss, but around love.
“Don’t forget to smile! It’s Valentine’s Day. We started our morning with a 9AM Mass to celebrate love, give thanks for the recovery and blessings of @dagiannimanila ALABANG WESTGATE and pray for safety and protection. Love is gratitude. Sarah, radiant and all smiles during the ceremony, was even heard encouraging her father-in-law to smile, gently reminding everyone that it was, after all, the Day of Hearts. In a moment that could have been clouded by stress and frustration, the atmosphere instead felt light, hopeful, and united.
The accident itself occurred on February 8, when a vehicle crashed into the al fresco area at around 4 p.m. In an earlier statement, Matteo had addressed the incident with transparency and calm.
“At around 4:00 PM today, an incident occurred where a vehicle rammed into our al fresco area. We are grateful to share that no guests were injured. All guests had already left by around 1:30 PM, so the area was clear at the time. Two of our staff members were inside the restaurant (pizza oven area) and were immediately brought to the hospital for medical checks. Thankfully, there are no serious injuries, and they are currently being taken care of,” he posted.
For the Guidicelli family, that absence of serious harm became the focal point. Instead of dwelling on damage, they chose gratitude for protection.
By February 11, the area had been cleaned and reopened. Yet the reopening came with decisive changes. The restaurant has officially discontinued its drive-thru service to prioritize guest safety.
Matteo explained the new measures with clarity and assurance. “We’re officially cleaned up and ready to welcome you back! (Officially no more DRIVE THRU) @dagiannimanila Westgate Filinvest is now open for indoor and AL FRESCO dining. Your safety comes first. All precautions are in place and coordinated closely with Filinvest, with additional measures already being expedited. On our end, we’ve gone the extra mile by placing a trailer truck in front of the alfresco area, so our guests can feel safe, comfortable, and at home.”
In a symbolic gesture of protection, a trailer truck now stands in front of the al fresco section, acting as a barrier—an added layer of assurance for diners returning to the space.
What could have been remembered as a Valentine’s marked by disruption instead became a quiet celebration of forgiveness and faith. There were no grand declarations of anger, no visible bitterness—only thanksgiving for safety and renewed commitment to community.
For Matteo and Sarah, the day was not just about romantic love. It was about love expressed through action: safeguarding others, showing up for family, and choosing gratitude over grievance.
