Veteran Moro leader Datu Tucao Mastura and his running mate, Datu Blah Sinsuat Mayor Marshall Sinsuat, were proclaimed governor and vice governor-elect of Maguindanao del Norte on Wednesday after winning under the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP).
The Provincial Board of Canvassers declared Mastura, 78, the winner with 199,049 votes, while Sinsuat secured 198,233 votes. The ceremony was held at the 6th Infantry Division’s covered court past 4 p.m.
“Now that the election is over, it is time for reconciliation, and I offer my hand of peace to my political rivals,” Mastura told reporters after the proclamation.
The duo later met with UBJP president and Moro Islamic Liberation Front chair Ahod Balawag Ebrahim at his Camp Darapanan office to thank him for his support.
The winning members of the provincial board were also proclaimed.
Maguindanao del Norte was created in September 2022 after a plebiscite split the former Maguindanao province into two.
