The Marvel Cinematic Universe may be heading toward its biggest war yet.
Marvel Studios has unleashed a new trailer for “Avengers: Doomsday,” and it puts Robert Downey Jr.’s terrifying Doctor Doom at the center of a superhero collision involving the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts and X-Men.
And if the latest footage is any indication, Doom is not coming quietly.
The two-minute trailer, unveiled during Disney’s D23 fan convention, opens with Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm/Invisible Woman warning Earth’s heroes about the threat posed by the ruler of Latveria.
“I knew he was lost,” Storm says. “But I did not realize that he was broken.”
From there, the trailer quickly explodes into chaos.
Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic comes face-to-face with Doom amid the ruins, while Chris Hemsworth’s Thor vows to make the villain pay.
But Doom has other plans.
Just as Thor appears ready to strike with Stormbreaker, Doom stops the attack and blasts the God of Thunder with a burst of green energy.
Then comes one of the trailer’s biggest shocks.
Doctor Doom unleashes an army of Sentinels—the iconic mutant-hunting machines from the X-Men universe.
And Doom’s chilling declaration leaves little doubt about how powerful he believes himself to be:
“Hell answers to me, for I am Doom.”
Robert Downey Jr. is back—but definitely not as Iron Man
The biggest twist surrounding “Avengers: Doomsday” remains the return of Robert Downey Jr., who spent more than a decade as Tony Stark/Iron Man before the character’s emotional death in “Avengers: Endgame.”
This time, however, Downey is returning as one of Marvel’s most legendary villains.
His Doctor Doom will apparently be dangerous enough to force several superhero teams—and even heroes from different corners of Marvel history—to unite against him.
That alone has turned “Doomsday” into one of the MCU’s most anticipated events.
Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men collide
The movie boasts a massive ensemble cast that reads like a Marvel fan’s dream crossover.
Chris Evans is returning as Steve Rogers/Captain America, while Hemsworth is back as Thor. Paul Rudd returns as Ant-Man, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Simu Liu as Shang-Chi.
The Fantastic Four are also joining the fight, with Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Kirby as Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing.
The Thunderbolts will also be thrown into the battle, including Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, David Harbour’s Red Guardian and Lewis Pullman’s Sentry.
But perhaps the biggest nostalgia bomb comes from the X-Men.
Several stars from the previous Fox films are officially entering the MCU, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler.
Channing Tatum’s Gambit is also joining the massive superhero lineup.

The trailer appears to be setting up a battle unlike anything Marvel Studios has attempted before.
Avengers.
Fantastic Four.
Thunderbolts.
X-Men.
All potentially standing on one side.
And Doctor Doom on the other.
fter years of multiverse teases, returning heroes and surprise cameos, “Avengers: Doomsday” looks ready to bring several generations of Marvel characters crashing together in one enormous showdown.
And with Robert Downey Jr. trading Iron Man’s armor for Doom’s mask, Marvel may have saved its wildest twist for last.
“Avengers: Doomsday” is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
The question now haunting Marvel fans is simple:
