Maria Ozawa may have once made headlines for her controversial past, but today, she’s embracing a far different spotlight—one that shines on personal growth, cross-cultural appreciation, and dreams of building a family grounded in Filipino values.
Now based in the Philippines, the former Japanese adult film actress shared in a recent sit-down interview with journalist Julius Babao that her vision for the future is one deeply inspired by the warmth and familial culture she found in the country she now calls home.
“If I ever start a family, I’d want my kids to grow up here,” Ozawa said candidly. “It’s not just the place—it’s the people, the values, the energy.”
The 39-year-old entertainer, now also a travel show host and podcast personality, spoke with a tone far removed from the public persona she once carried. Instead, she reflected on how living in the Philippines reshaped her perspectives—especially on relationships and priorities.
“In Japan, life often revolves around work. People rank family behind career and social obligations,” she explained. “But here, it’s different. Family is number one. People check in on each other, support each other, and that’s something I’ve come to admire deeply.”
Ozawa, who is currently in a relationship with a fellow Japanese national, shared that both of them are exploring business ventures in the Philippines. Marriage, she said, isn’t the immediate priority, but planting long-term roots is definitely part of the plan.
Interestingly, while she once expressed a preference for dating Filipino men, Ozawa admitted that cultural and linguistic challenges played a role in her eventual decision to date someone from her own country. “When emotions run high—especially during arguments or serious talks—it’s just easier to express myself in Japanese,” she admitted with a laugh.
Despite past high-profile relationships, including one with celebrity chef Jose Sarasola, Ozawa said she now measures success in love not through headlines, but through stability, mutual respect, and shared vision. Looking back, she acknowledged that her former line of work posed challenges for some of her past partners.
“At first, some of them said they understood my past. But as time went by, insecurities would surface,” she recalled. “Eventually, it would lead to misunderstandings or double standards.”
Today, however, her life is steered by purpose. Ozawa is the face of Ask Maria, a travel series airing on Pinoy Xtreme, where she explores the Philippines while offering raw, honest insights into her journey of reinvention. She also hosts a podcast of the same name—an unfiltered platform where she connects with audiences beyond appearances.
“I came to the Philippines for work. I stayed for the people, the culture, the kindness,” she said. “And now, I’m hoping to build a future here—not just for myself, but for the family I hope to have someday.”
From global controversy to quiet contentment, Maria Ozawa’s story is no longer about where she came from—but where she’s choosing to go.
