President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday visited families displaced by flooding in Bacolor, Pampanga, as government agencies continued relief operations in areas affected by recent weather disturbances.
Marcos went to the Bacolor Integrated School Evacuation Center, where 216 families or 836 individuals had been staying as of August 23.
During the visit, he spoke with evacuees and observed the distribution of Php 10,000 in cash assistance per family under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.
The DSWD also provided family food packs and hot meals through its mobile kitchen to residents temporarily staying at the evacuation center.
Marcos later proceeded to the Bacolor Mini Convention Center, where another 300 displaced families received Php 10,000 each in financial assistance.
Bacolor currently has 11 active evacuation centers accommodating 559 families, or 2,221 individuals.
Across Pampanga, more than 315,000 families, equivalent to about 1.01 million people, were affected by the enhanced southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Luis, Maymay and Neneng. Of these, 3,118 families or 11,308 individuals remained in evacuation centers.
Before the evacuation center visits, Marcos joined Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon in conducting an aerial inspection of flood-hit areas in Bulacan and Pampanga.
