President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged Filipinos on Monday to honor the country’s heroes by carrying their courage and patriotism into everyday life as the nation marked National Heroes Day.
Marcos said Filipinos have a continuing responsibility to preserve the country that previous generations fought and sacrificed to build.
“Our forebears won our freedom, defended our dignity, and laid the foundations of the Republic we cherish,” Marcos said.
“We honor them best by embodying their courage, keeping the flame of patriotism alive and becoming the citizens our country needs,” he added.
The President said heroism remains evident among soldiers and first responders who risk their lives to protect others, as well as teachers, health workers, farmers, fisherfolk and overseas Filipinos who support families and communities.
“We find it in every citizen who helps a neighbor, protects the vulnerable, and works honestly for the common good,” Marcos said.
He stressed that the spirit of the country’s heroes lives on through Filipinos who choose to serve others and contribute to causes greater than themselves.
Marcos called on Filipinos to remain worthy of the freedom secured by previous generations and work toward building a country that future generations can proudly inherit.
