President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Saturday called on the Philippine Army (PA) to continue developing their skills and adapting to modern advancements to help secure a “New Philippines” that is peaceful, progressive, and full of potential for future generations.

Speaking during the Army’s 128th anniversary celebration at Fort Andres Bonifacio in Taguig City, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the military and ensuring its readiness to protect the nation.

“As your Commander-in-Chief, I enjoin you to stay relentless in your pursuit of excellence. Sharpen your skills, master your craft, embrace innovation. The strength of the Philippine Army goes beyond firepower — it lies in the honor, integrity, and fortitude of its personnel,” Marcos said.

He acknowledged that challenges remain on the road ahead, including delays and frustrations, but emphasized the importance of resilience and determination in overcoming them.

President Marcos also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve the capabilities and welfare of military personnel. He underscored the value of regular training exercises to maintain combat readiness and enhance the Army’s capacity to respond to emerging threats.

In terms of welfare, he noted several initiatives aimed at supporting military personnel, including mandatory annual physical exams, reimbursement for hospital expenses, and assistance for those wounded in action. He also cited the recent increase in the daily subsistence allowance for Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) personnel — from PHP150 to PHP350 — after more than a decade.

“These efforts are part of a larger vision — a nation where Filipinos live without fear, where families can thrive, and where peace and order allow for learning, growth, and meaningful contribution to national progress,” Marcos said.

“As we commemorate the 128th founding anniversary of the Philippine Army, we are reminded of the purpose behind our service. It is not just for ourselves, but for the generations to come. Every Filipino dreams of a future where their children are safe, have access to quality education, and enjoy opportunities for a better life.”

Founded on March 22, 1897, the Philippine Army has remained at the forefront of national defense, continuously evolving to address both domestic and international security challenges.

This year’s celebration, themed “Hukbong Katihan @128: Matatag na Sandigan ng Bagong Pilipinas” (Army @128: A Strong Pillar of the New Philippines), highlights the Army’s enduring role in safeguarding the nation and its commitment to supporting the vision of a stronger, more resilient Philippines.
