President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. marked his 69th birthday Sunday while attending the BRICS Summit in India, with Malacañang using the occasion to emphasize the government programs it wants completed before his term ends in 2028.
Palace press officer Claire Castro said the Presidential Communications Office wished Marcos continued good health and divine protection, particularly as his official duties require frequent travel in the Philippines and overseas.
The President is in New Delhi for the 18th BRICS Summit from Sept. 12 to 13 at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the Philippines participating as this year’s chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
His attendance also gives Manila a platform to advance its 2026 ASEAN priorities involving peace and security, economic development and regional resilience while engaging some of the world’s major emerging economies.
Beyond the summit, Marcos’ India agenda includes discussions on the Philippines-India Strategic Partnership and the five-year bilateral Plan of Action covering 2025 to 2029, as well as meetings aimed at expanding trade and investment ties.
The economic component follows Marcos’ state visit to India in August 2025, when Indian companies announced about $5.8 billion in investment pledges and commitments covering technology, health, energy and infrastructure, according to the Palace.
Castro, meanwhile, appealed for public cooperation as the administration works on projects requiring action from government agencies, while also urging Filipinos to be cautious of misinformation targeting the government.
Marcos is expected to return to Manila after the summit and mark his birthday with the “Salo-salo sa Palasyo” at the Kalayaan Grounds on Monday, shifting the celebration from his diplomatic engagements abroad to a public gathering at Malacañang.
