President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has signed seven new laws aimed at expanding and upgrading the services of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in various parts of the Philippines.
Under the newly signed laws, new LTO offices will be established in Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte (RA 12135); Pandan, Antique (RA 12140); and the towns of Cordova (RA 12137) and Consolacion (RA 12138) in Cebu province.
The legislation also includes the upgrading of existing LTO offices. The extension office in Las Piñas City, Metro Manila will be converted into a full-fledged LTO Licensing Center under RA 1236. Meanwhile, RA 12139 elevates the LTO district office in Rosales, Pangasinan to a Class “A” District Office.
In northern Luzon, RA 12141 converts the LTO extension office in Burgos, Ilocos Norte into a regular district office, now to be known as the Burgos LTO District Office.
These laws direct the Department of Transportation to include the operationalization of these new and upgraded offices in its programs. Initial funding will come from the offices’ existing budgets, while future allocations will be included in the national government’s annual General Appropriations Act.
President Marcos signed the measures on March 27. They will take effect 15 days after publication in the Official Gazette or a newspaper of general circulation.
