Malacañang has assured that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will allow the impeachment process against Vice President Sara Duterte to proceed according to the law.

Presidential spokesperson Claire Castro said the President wants the process handled like investigations into alleged anomalies in flood control projects, ensuring accountability for those found liable.

Castro explained that Marcos’s shift in stance may reflect a fuller understanding of the issue compared with his earlier 2024 position, when he opposed the impeachment.

Lawmakers from the Makabayan bloc and other groups are set to refile the impeachment complaint after the one-year ban on Duterte’s impeachment lapses on February 6.

The Palace emphasized that the President will not interfere with the House of Representatives’ mandate if sufficient evidence is presented against the vice president.

Castro said Marcos will support whatever outcome emerges from the process, provided it follows proper legal procedures and due process.

She also urged legislators to prioritize the public interest over political considerations while handling the new complaint.

The President may also face impeachment complaints, with some lawmakers reportedly planning charges over alleged breaches of public trust related to budget approvals.

Castro stressed that Marcos respects the Constitution and due process, and that he has not committed wrongdoing in connection with the national budget or flood control investigations.

The Palace reiterated that the administration remains committed to accountability, saying both the impeachment process against Duterte and any complaints against the President will be handled according to law.
