Marcos opens NLEX-C5 Northlink segment, cuts travel time to 5 minutes

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the opening of the 2-kilometer NLEX-C5 Northlink Segment 8.2 Section 1A along the boundary of Quezon City and Valenzuela City on Thursday, October 29, 2026, providing motorists with a faster route ahead of the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day holidays.

The newly opened expressway is expected to reduce travel time from 40 minutes to just five minutes, benefiting nearly 11,000 motorists daily.

The project aims to ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity between major roads in Metro Manila, and provide a more convenient travel option for commuters and motorists, particularly during the Undas holiday rush.

Motorists will be allowed to use the new expressway toll-free until December 31, 2026.

The opening forms part of the government’s efforts to improve road infrastructure and reduce travel time in Metro Manila and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, Marcos also inspected the progress of the Metro Manila Subway Project, another major infrastructure initiative aimed at addressing traffic congestion in the capital region.

The subway project is targeted to begin operations in 2032 and is expected to provide an additional mass transportation option for commuters once completed.

Both projects are part of the administration’s infrastructure development efforts to improve mobility, strengthen transportation networks, and support economic activity in Metro Manila.
