President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. signaled a push for major legislative reforms on Tuesday, convening a series of high-level meetings at Malacañang to discuss the proposed anti-political dynasty bill and a new transparency measure known as the CADENA bill.
Palace Press Officer and Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed the President’s itinerary, which focused on a “full slate” of five separate meetings.
A primary highlight of the day was a private discussion on the anti-political dynasty bill.
The measure, which has long been mandated by the 1987 Constitution but never fully enacted by Congress, seeks to restrict the concentration of political power within specific families.
In addition to the dynasty reform, the President reviewed the Citizen Access and Disclosure of Expenditures for National Accountability (CADENA) bill.
The proposed law aims to modernize government transparency by requiring all agencies to maintain a centralized digital platform.
This system would provide the public with real-time updates on budget documents, including detailed procurement records, project costs, and contracts.
The President’s schedule began with a briefing from Executive Secretary Ralph Recto and included separate consultations with the Philippine Reclamation Authority and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
While the Palace did not release specific details regarding the outcome of the discussions, the focus on these two bills suggests a renewed executive interest in addressing governance and transparency issues that have historically faced legislative hurdles.
