A planned Philippine General Hospital (PGH) branch in Carmona, Cavite was expected to begin construction in May, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Monday.
Marcos made the remark during a barangay event in Cavite on May 4, indicating that the project would move forward with a groundbreaking within the month.
“Mag-groundbreaking daw kami itong Mayo na ito isang PGH na hospital sa Carmona,” referring to the start of construction of the facility.
The Carmona hospital project was earlier announced in 2024 by then-Cavite governor Jonvic Remulla, who is now Interior secretary, after it received approval from the president.
The PGH, based in Manila and operated by the University of the Philippines system, is the country’s largest state-run tertiary hospital.
Earlier plans described the facility as a 600-bed hospital, but Marcos’ latest statement placed the figure at 200 beds.
Malacañang said the project was expected to expand access to public healthcare services in Cavite and support residents through improved medical infrastructure.
Details on the final scope and construction timeline were not immediately clarified, including whether the 200-bed figure represents an initial phase or a revised plan.
