The Marcos administration reaffirmed its support for local government units during the general assembly of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) held Tuesday.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto attended the gathering on behalf of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., addressing municipal leaders during the event.
The assembly brought together mayors and local officials from across the country to discuss governance concerns and review government programs affecting municipalities.
League of Municipalities of the Philippines National President Faustino Dy thanked the administration for the Local Government Support Fund, which provides financial assistance to municipalities for infrastructure and community programs.
The fund supports projects related to public services and local development initiatives implemented by municipal governments.
During the event, the league also submitted policy proposals to Recto regarding possible amendments to the Local Government Code.
Participants also held a plenary session that focused on strategies for building sustainable and inclusive municipalities.
Discussions covered local economic development, health and nutrition, education, climate and disaster resilience, and digital transformation in governance, with representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways, European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, PhilHealth, World Surgical Philippines, and private sector groups in attendance.
