President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared special non-working days in five areas of the country to allow residents to observe local festivals and milestone anniversaries scheduled in late January and February.
The proclamations were signed through Executive Secretary Ralph Recto and cover one province, two cities, and two municipalities, the Office of the Executive Secretary said in an advisory released Saturday.
Cadiz City in Negros Occidental will suspend work on Jan. 26 in connection with the Dinagsa Festival, a major cultural event that draws visitors to the city each year.
Ilocos Norte, meanwhile, will observe a province-wide non-working day on Feb. 2 to mark its 208th founding anniversary.
Another declaration covers Biñan City in Laguna, where work in both public and private offices will be suspended on Feb. 3 for the city’s 81st Liberation Day.
Later in February, the municipality of Buug in Zamboanga Sibugay will observe a special non-working day on Feb. 26 for its founding anniversary and the Bog Festival.
Sarrat town in Ilocos Norte was also included, with work suspended on Feb. 28 as it commemorates its founding anniversary.
Under Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) rules, the “no work, no pay” principle generally applies during special non-working days unless employers have policies or agreements that provide otherwise.
Employees who report for work on these dates are entitled to additional compensation, while the full list of nationwide regular holidays and special non-working days for 2026 remains governed by an earlier proclamation.
