President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged Filipinos to help build a country where refugees, asylum-seekers, and stateless persons can find safety and rebuild their lives.
In his message for the third National Refugee Day Forum of the Department of Justice Refugees and Stateless Persons Protection Unit, Marcos said protecting every person’s dignity was a shared responsibility of society.
He said the Philippines had long maintained a tradition of compassion toward people forced to leave their homes because of conflict, violence, or persecution.
Marcos said safeguarding the worth of every individual was not only an act of goodwill but also a duty of a just society.
The DOJ-RSPPU is the government unit tasked with examining and determining the legal status of asylum-seekers, refugees, and stateless persons in the country.
Marcos credited the unit for helping strengthen pathways that allow refugees and stateless persons to recover stability and hope.
He said the forum served as an important venue for government agencies, development partners, and civil society groups to improve cooperation in providing education, livelihood, and other support.
The President also called for stronger partnerships, innovative solutions, and responsive policies that would allow displaced individuals to live with greater dignity and security.
