The trilateral leaders’ phone call between President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden, and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has been moved to Monday morning (Manila Time), according to Malacañang.
The virtual meeting was initially set for Sunday.
Presidential Communications Secretary Cesar Chavez said the postponement was “due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.”
The Department of Foreign Affairs recently said the meeting will center on the progress of the countries’ trilateral cooperation.
The leaders of the U.S., Japan, and the Philippines met in a historic trilateral meeting in Washington last year and discussed a broad range of issues, including security cooperation, infrastructure development, and regional economic resilience.
The three countries also held a multilateral maritime cooperative activity in December last year to demonstrate joint commitment to safeguarding international waters and ensuring free navigation in the Indo-Pacific region in light of rising tensions in the South China Sea. (PNA)
